Seeing Northern Lights in Norway claims top spot on global bucket list

Discovery Channel unveils its travel wish list, and seeing the Northern Lights in Norway tops the 25 must-do life experiences list.

In fierce competition with 24 other of the world's wonders, including swimming in the Great Barrier Reef and walk the Inca Trail in Peru, seeing the Northern Lights in North Cape tops the prestigious list. The bucket list results have been released to mark the 25th  anniversary of the Discovery Channel.

Claiming the number one spot is a visit to the  North Cape to see the Northern Lights – which 45 per  cent of respondents said is their dream trip. The North Cape is the northernmost part of mainland Europe, making it an excellent place to spot the stunning light display.

While cruise is a popular way of exploring the area, it is now possible to join an 'Arctic expedition to the North Cape', inspired by the adventures by the likes of Scott and Amundsen. The expedition includes snowmobiling up to the North Cape, and spending the night there before returning to civilisation the following morning.
