New direct route to the northern lights in Norway
New direct route to the northern lights in Norway
From February 2016, it will be even easier to experience the mythical northern lights in Norway. Tour operator Inghams introduces two new packages featuring an exclusive direct flight from London Gatwick to Evenes, visiting towns such Harstad and Narvik, as well as the stunning fjords and islands scattered across Northern Norway.
Seeing the northern lights in Norway continues to top British people’s bucket lists, and with this new route the dream is closer than ever. Inghams will start operating the route from February 2016, based on two adventurous itineraries.
Polar express adventure – kiss a wolf
The Polar express scenic train adventure offers the proper Arctic experience, with a train journey on the Polar Express which winds its way from Narvik to Riksgransen followed by husky sledding, hunting for the northern lights, and perhaps the highlight for animal lovers and daredevils alike, kissing the wolves at Polar Wildlife Park. Also alternatives for those who rather get up close with reindeers and arctic foxes, while ending the day in skiing mecca Narvik.
Island and fjord adventure – explore the width of dramatic landscapes
Explore coastal Northern Norway with this package, where guests will experience the diverse Northern Norwegian landscape with islands, fjords, high mountains, and the town of Harstad. The trip includes a wildlife tour at sea; a cruise with the Hurtigruten coastal express; and a visit to a traditional Sami camp, the indigenous people of Northern Norway.
Notes to editors:
The new route is operated by Inghams, and will initially run from 28th February-13th March 2016 with five departures from London Gatwick to Evenes.
The Polar Express Adventure costs from £799 per person for 3 nights and includes flights; half board accommodation; excursions with meals included and transfers.
The Island and Fjords Adventure costs from £899 per person for 3 nights and includes flights; half board accommodation; excursions with meals includedand transfers.
Guests who prefer to stay a whole week can combine both adventures on a week long holiday with prices starting from £1,549.
Northern Norway is regarded one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights due to its northern location mainly above the Arctic Circle, and its closeness to sea, mountains and plateaus means that good sighting conditions are within reach most times. The main city is Tromsø with its 70 000 inhabitants, while other cities include Narvik, Harstad and Bodø. All above the Arctic Circle.
