Local taste experiences in Dalarna, Sweden

The region Dalarna in Central Sweden is known for its traditions, but local food and drink experiences are also an important part of Dalarna and play a significant role in the region’s cultural heritage. Traditional, exotic, unique and exciting all at the same time.

Taste of Dalarna is a network of farm shops, artisan producers, craft brewers, cafés and restaurants throughout Dalarna, all of whom are passionate about local produce and local flavours. The network has been created to promote and highlight the people who have chosen to make the most of the region’s resources to provide quality-assured food and drink experiences and who:

  • Prioritise and highlight local produce, products and craftsmanship
  • Adhere to the core values of honesty, authenticity and transparency
  • Promote the story behind the ingredients, product and craftsmanship

Forests filled with berries and game and waterways providing fresh fish offer fantastic opportunities and conditions for working with food and drink in a local, sustainable way. For those who would like to experience something different, we recommend the guide of Taste of Dalarna. Many of the producers involved in the network offer tasting or/and the opportunity to watch their craftsmanship in action.

To make it easier for visitors, we have divided up the food and drink producers into restaurants and cafés, farm shops and producers, breweries and glögg producers. On tasteofdalarna.se you will find a map showing the location of all the various restaurants, cafés and producers so that you easily can create your own food itinerary in Dalarna!

Restaurants and cafés

Many of Dalarna’s restaurants and cafés work closely alongside our local and drink producers to offer both traditional and innovative flavour experiences. As far as possible, they work with the seasonal ingredients producers and nature can provide.

Farm shops, food markets and grocery stores

Buy locally-grown and newly harvested produce in season, along with matured cheeses, hand-baked crispbread, the local flatbread called tuttul, as well as Sami delicacies like reindeer meat.
Dalarna’s food hall is part of the culinary meeting place Kulinariet/Skedvi Bröd in Stora Skedvi in the south of Dalarna and is open all year round. The shelves are stocked with a large range of ingredients and produce from Taste of Dalarna’s producers. In the same building, you will also find the unique crispbread bakery Skedvi Bröd, where crispbread is baked by hand in wood-fired ovens.

Food and drink producers

All products by producers in the Taste of Dalarna network are made from scratch on site with ingredients primarily from Dalarna or at least Sweden wherever possible.
Products made by Taste of Dalarna’s members include jam, glögg mulled wine, crispbread, flatbread, cheese and charcuterie products made from reindeer and ostrich meat and beef.
The interest in craft-brewed beer is constantly growing in Sweden, and Dalarna is no exception. The breweries involved in Taste of Dalarna are open to visitors and they arrange beer tasting with local food served in the breweries, guided tours and summer pubs.
