Nobelprize.org launches a new educational production, Nerve Signaling

Nobelprize.org announces the launch of Nerve Signaling, a new educational multimedia production for high school students and educators. It illustrates and explains how the Nobel Prize awarded achievements in Physiology or Medicine have contributed to our understanding of the nervous system.

Nerve Signaling, the first production within the AstraZeneca Nobel Medicine Initiative, explores how the Nobel Prize awarded achievements in Physiology or Medicine have contributed to our basic understanding of nerves and how it sends messages from one cell to another. By using a multimedia approach that incorporates texts, animations and images, you can find:

  • Brief summaries of the Nobel Prizes awarded for breakthroughs in our comprehension of nerve signaling;
  • Animations describing how nerves signal;
  • Image galleries that illustrate the intricacies of nerves;
  • An introductory overview article that links all the Nobel Prizes within nerve signaling, from the structure of the nervous system to how synapses are involved in forming memories;
  • A discovery calendar, which allows you to explore different stages in our understanding of nerve signaling. For instance, where communication of individual cells take place, when nerves fire signals and how fast they travel.

"By looking at the Nobel Prize awarded achievements and their contributions to knowledge about the nervous system, we hope that Nerve Signaling is a useful tool for educators and students", said Agneta Wallin Levinovitz, Executive Editor, Nobel Web.
