Austin Hispanics Celebrate 39 Years of the Chamber’s Success
The Hispanic Chamber Wraps Up 39th Annual Gala, Celebrando Austin
Austin, Texas (April 27, 2012) – On Saturday, April 14, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC) held its 39th annual gala, Celebrando Austin, at the Austin Hilton Hotel. The night began with the Presentation of the Colors by the Austin Police Department under the direction of Sergeant Tim Kresta, and bagpipe players performed under the direction of Corporal David Crowder. Congressman Lloyd Doggett led more than 850 guests in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Gina Chavez, the Indie Latin folk singer-songwriter and one of the evening's entertainers, sang the National Anthem.
In addition to Gina Chavez, guests were entertained by the all female group from San Antonio, Mariachi Damas de Jalisco, who performed their renditions of powerful, passionate mariachi songs. The evening’s entertainment concluded with high energy salsa beats from Grupo Salero, a band which captures Austin’s eclectic energy in their sound.
The night’s purpose was to celebrate Austin and recognize the local community leaders who contribute to its identity through business and volunteering. The Chamber’s founders were also recognized for their contributions to the Latino business community. The founders in attendance who received onstage recognition included Gilbert M. Martinez, Alberto Garcia, George Villalva, and former Mayor Gus Garcia.
Next year will mark the GAHCC’s 40th anniversary, and the annual gala will launch the Chamber into a new decade. The details of the event location, entertainment, and award recipients are already in the works.
