Press release -

Three life science companies nominated to the business gala in Umeå

Life science companies have been awarded several times at the local business gala, Umeågalan.
2023 is no exception.
Three life science companies are nominated as finalists in four different prize categories.

Companies such as Nordic Biomarker, Likvor, Umecrine, InfiCure Bio, Medicvent, UmanDiagnostics, and Brain Stimulation have all been awarded winners at Umeågalan over the years.
Umeågalan 2023 takes place on the 23rd of March and there are three Life science companies nominated as finalists, in four different categories.

Spinchem
is nominated in the category of The University Spin-off of the year. The company develops innovative rotating bed reactors, RBR, for synthesis, manufacturing, and purification in the chemical and biotechnology industries. The CEO Emil Byström is honored over the nomination and believes that endurance is the key to success as a University spin-off.

"If you want to succeed, you must believe in your idea, have patience, and have a long-term plan. It feels telling that all three companies nominated in our category have been active for about ten years. We at Spinchem have worked hard and persistently and now have a broad market where we have sales in 35 countries. We mainly operate internationally, but of course, it is nice to be noticed locally as well", he says.

Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics
is nominated in two different categories, the Innovative company of the year and The Export company of the year. "They have uniquely positioned Umeå as a globally leading player in software analyses for monitoring and control in the production of pharmaceuticals in bioreactors", the jury states in one of the two nomination texts.

The third nominated Life science company is Cytiva in the Technology and industry award of the year (last year won by Nordic Biomarker). "With its technology and hardware manufacturing in vaccine manufacturing, Cytiva has helped people around the world get Covid-19 vaccines", the Jury writes in its nomination.

Nomination texts

Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics, The Innovative company of the year

"The company is showing strong growth in a growing global health and wellness software market, attracting both local and global talent to our city and is a shining star in the software firmament. It integrates diversity in its development process in order to succeed on the global market and exports close to 90 percent of its turnover. Sartorius has brought the world to Umeå and Umeå to the world."

Sartorius Stedim Data Analytics, The Export company of the year

"They have uniquely positioned Umeå as a globally leading player in software analyses for monitoring and control in the production of pharmaceuticals in bioreactors. Sartorius' innovations make medicines safer, cheaper and more resource efficient – which in turn makes medicines more accessible to people all over the world."

Spinchem, The University Spin-off of the year

"With research and strong product development, SpinChem has created a technical solution with broad areas of application that is applicable in both small-scale and large-scale chemical process industries. Their technology can be used to purify waste as well as in the design of new drug molecules. SpinChem works quickly and agilely, has a strong patent portfolio and is steadily gaining more market share where, among other things, the majority of global pharmaceutical companies are already their customers."

Cytiva, The technology and industry award

"With its technology and hardware manufacturing in vaccine manufacturing, Cytiva has helped people around the world get Covid-19 vaccines. Cytiva has also grown and become one of the largest private employers in Umeå."
