Press release -

Fiddles at Fyvie for Festival

Fiddle music will be celebrated by a number of musicians - including Royal Deeside fiddle maestro Paul Anderson – at The Fiddlers Feast, part of the Homecoming Fyvie Festival 2014.

Paul will top the bill at the Fyvie Castle event and will be joined by the Garioch Fiddlers, Nicola Auchnie, Ken Slaven and brothers, George and Stuart Davidson. Members of the audience are also encouraged to take along their fiddles and join in with some of the items on the programme.

Fyvie Homecoming Festival 2014 will see the small Aberdeenshire village come alive with a four-day programme of activities and entertainment with a strong emphasis on music and culture. As well as the Fiddlers Feast, there will also be a Burns Supper, a folk concert with Drever, McGuire & Young; various local exhibitions; a Ballad Bus Tour with Fyvie Folk Club; a family ceilidh; a Special Service of Praise; a Homecoming Gala and a family history centre at the castle as part of the gala on Sunday.

The Fiddlers Feast, on Thursday 28th August, is the first event of the Festival, which runs from 28th to 31st August, and will be opened by Sir George Forbes-Leith, Laird of Fyvie.

The Festival hopes to attract not just those with links to the village but also expatriate Scots from all corners of the globe, as well as others who either know and love Scotland already, or who will be visiting for the first time and want to sample Scottish hospitality at its best. The Festival is being supported by Aberdeenshire Council and the National Trust for Scotland at Fyvie Castle and is an official Homecoming partner of VisitScotland.

Chairman of the Festival’s organising committee, Anne Iravani, said:
“We are just delighted to have this line up of such talented musicians to open our festival and I am sure it will prove to be a very memorable evening.”

Philip Smith, VisitScotland Regional Director, said:
Fiddlers Feast looks set to be a fantastic celebration of this iconic Scottish instrument and we hope many of those attending will join in and play along too.

“Fyvie Homecoming Festival is one of around 25 Homecoming events listed on visitscotland.com for Aberdeen City and Shire. Homecoming gives communities from every corner of Scotland the opportunity to celebrate all the great things about this country and highlight our many assets. A similar Festival was held at Fyvie in 2009 and we would hope this will only build on that success.

“We are already halfway through a very busy 2014, the year in which Scotland welcomes the world with a line-up of truly global events, including the Commonwealth Games and The Ryder Cup. I would encourage everyone to get behind these community events to make them as successful as possible.”

Full details of The Fiddlers Feast, and how to purchase tickets for this and all the other events taking place during the packed four-day programme, can be found on www.fyviehomecoming2014.com. Alternatively contact the organisers on (01651) 891790 or e-mail: bpscotland@btopenworld.com

Homecoming will showcase hundreds of events across the country – from mass participation to small community activity – and will be supported by a £5.5m major events and worldwide marketing programme which will showcase Scotland around the world.
