Cleeve Park School: KENT SCHOOL LEADS THE WAY WITH ENERGY MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY AND MAKES IMMEDIATE COST SAVINGS
Cleeve Park School, based in Sidcup, Kent is today announcing the successful installation of an Internet based advanced energy management system. The new system, which has been installed under a NESS (National Energy Saving Service) Share™ programme, is already proving its value with significant savings.
So far, the run times for central heating and hot water boilers have been reduced by an average of 69% with no degradation in quality of service. This is expected to lead to cost savings in excess of £10,000 per annum.
The new system is a DEDICATEDengines (DEL) eFM internet based energy management system. It provides School management with the ability to monitor and control room temperatures and boiler activity throughout the school.
The installation of the DEL eFM system was made possible through the NESS Share™ programme. With NESS Share™, the School has the full 24/7 use of the DEDICATEDengines system, for which it pays an agreed quarterly subscription.

Cleeve Park School has two plant rooms for heating and hot water; Zone 1, the main boiler room, with three boilers, and Zone 2, a smaller room, with two boilers. There was no centralised BMS (Building Management System) – and the boilers were operated independently using basic timers and manual controls.
With the DEL eFM system installed, boiler run times in Zone 1 were reduced from 96.5 hrs to 40.75 hrs – a reduction of 55.75 hrs (57.7%), and in Zone 2, from 168 hrs to 40.75 hrs – a reduction of 127.25 hrs (75.7%). For the two zones, the overall reduction was from 264.5 hrs to 81.5 hrs – a reduction of 183 run hrs or 69%.
Cleeve Park School Assistant Head Teacher, Don Blaylock, explains. “We were looking for ways of reducing our energy costs, but were restricted by lack of funds. The NESS programme not only solved the funding issue, but also recommended technologies that had proven track records. We are delighted with the results so far. Now we are able to properly manage and control the operation of our heating and hot water through the eFM system resulting in significant savings. We are already looking at other technologies and will continue to target energy reduction as a priority”.

Cleeve Park School is a progressive secondary modern school in Sidcup in the London Borough of Bexley, Kent. It is an Engineering College, with industrial support from Balfour Beatty. The school's engineering status allows pupils to study additional engineering GCSE subjects.
All National Curriculum requirements are met and all pupils take a broad, balanced and relevant combination of subjects.
Some subjects are taught in ability sets, others are mixed ability. Year 9 pupils are well supported as they move towards GCSE courses. The school offers information evenings for parents and pupils at which they can learn about the courses on offer and each pupil’s suitability for them, and the study skills necessary for success. Throughout the curriculum there is an emphasis on key skills such as Information Technology.
