Maritime And Coastguard Agency: HM Coastguard recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours
Three members of Her Majesty’s Coastguard have been recognised in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours including two volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers and the Agency’s Search and Rescue Communications Manager.
Steve Huxley, Search and Rescue Communications Manager, has worked in various roles for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for 24 years - beginning his career at Swansea Coastguard. Steve, now based at based at Falmouth Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, was thrilled to receive the award, saying:
"It wouldn’t be an understatement to say I was ecstatic when I heard of this Award. I only wish there was such an Award for teamwork as my Team deserves great credit for what they have achieved, as well as colleagues in the wider Agency."
Paul White, Station Officer for Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team received an MBE to recognise his voluntary service to Hastings Coastguard Rescue Team. Paul has been a member of HM Coastguard for 40 years, and a Station Officer for five, and also works as a fisherman.
On receiving the award, Paul said:
"It all came as a bit of a surprise – but I am extremely proud to receive the honour and feel it is an excellent reflection on both HM Coastguard as a service and on the whole team at Hastings."
Stephen Pack, Deputy Station Officer for Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team received an MBE in recognition of his voluntary services to Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Station and Lulworth Responder Group in Dorset. Stephen has been a member of the Lulworth team for 33 years, and a member of the Responder Group since its inception in 2006.
Stephen said:
"During my 33 years of service to the Coastguard there have been many changes which have brought about vast improvements to the way we deliver the service. The excellence of the Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team has been recognised in many ways over the years, including four Chief Coastguard Commendations and the Wreck Shield and I am honoured and proud to continue this tradition by receiving an MBE."
Richard Parkes, Interim Chief Executive for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said:
"I am very proud that Her Majesty’s Coastguard and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency have been recognised in this way. I fully support the awarding of these honours and I would like to thank Stephen Pack and Paul White for their continued contribution and dedication for the safety of their communities and Steve Huxley for the benefit of his expertise and commitment to Search and Rescue communications. On behalf of all involved I offer them our congratulations for this extremely well –earned honour."
