London, United Kingdom, June 9th 2024 - Village Studio Games is excited to reveal brand-new gameplay and playable demo of its upcoming world’s first deckbuilding battle royale Inferni: Hope & Fear. Developed by industry veterans from SEGA and ROVIO, this genre-breaking title combines the strategy of deckbuilding with the fast-paced chaotic co-op action of the battle royale genre. Debuting during this year’s PC Gaming Show, a new trailer for Inferni: Hope & Fear showcased gameplay of Village’s debut title that will be releasing into Early Access on July 1st.

Descend into Chaos, One Card at a Time

Inferni: Hope & Fear is the world’s first deckbuilding battle royale in which players team up and battle each other in a spell slinging mosh pit, as they seek to fight through the Realm of Chaos to control reality itself. Key features of the game include:

  • Real-time combat as the match begins, players will be trapped in a hellish cage of magical mayhem; each spell they throw has a unique travel time and cast time, allowing the attacker to unleash chaos and the defender to counter or hijack incoming attacks.

  • Multiple player classes with different specialisations, from the damage-dealing glass cannon that is The Hunter to the traditional healer in the form of Panacea, or even the Leather Man that revels in pain and excels when his health is low.

  • Mid-Game Deckbuilding that allows players to adapt their decks in response to the strategies they’re facing, from going defensive against aggro players to building out a controlling deck against midrange builds.
  • Multiplayer combat that pits four teams of two against each other, as players scramble to prepare their defences and start dealing damage, allowing for emergent gameplay in the form of constant developments, surprises and unexpected strategies surfacing during games.

Inferni: Hope & Fear is developed by Village Studio Games, a team of avid TCG fans backed by executives at Jagex and Facepunch Studios. The development team includes talent from SEGA, EA and Rovio, and has worked closely with the Magic: The Gathering pro scene when designing the game.

Steam Next Fest Demo Available Now

For players keen to jump in, a demo of Inferni: Hope & Fear is currently available to play and will be featured as part of Steam’s Next Fest between June 10th - June 17th. The demo features five playable classes and online matchmaking, as well as the option to create private games if players want to challenge their friends instead.

“We can’t wait to show our game to the world.” said Will Luton, Creative Director and Founder of Village Studio. “We wanted the game to feel strategic, fast paced and constantly changing, which is why we’ve gone for real-time combat in Inferni. It is also a love letter to games of our childhoods, and we hope players will feel right at home from the first moment they click play.”

The game is set to release into Steam Early Access on June 28th. For more information, follow Inferni: Hope & Fear on Discord and Youtube. You can find the full press kit here.
