Dr Janina Schupp, SOUTHWORKS Career Development Fellow of the Digital Hub at Jesus College, Oxford says, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with ESI on Next Gen 2024, and to be hosting the event here in Oxford as part of our Cheng Kar Shun Digital Hub programme. The connections between esports and education are multifarious. For example, the study of esports and gaming, in the context of history, society and culture, is a rapidly growing field of interdisciplinary academic research, as is the technological innovation that underpins them. There is also growing research evidence for the potential of esports and gaming as a conduit to developing knowledge and educational skills such as critical thinking, digital creativity and digital literacy.

“Next Gen 2024 provides a unique opportunity to explore these themes further, and will allow us to collectively strengthen the relationship between the gaming industry and academia.”
