4 June 2024 - Today, Coffee Stain Publishing and Ghost Ship Games have released the full details of the hit intergalactic mining shooter Deep Rock Galactic’s newest seasonal content update. Season 05: Drilling Deeper introduces an all new season event, packed with another totally-free Performance Pass to work through, new enemies to overcome and a new mission type to dig into.

This Season also brings new depths for greybeards to delve into, with 12 new overclocks bringing more firepower and a new Hazard 5+ difficulty level that affects enemy aggression and numbers. Finally, dwarves can enjoy a blast from the past with the ability to revisit previous seasonal updates at the click of a terminal.

Journey to the centre of Hoxxes IV

Deep Rock Galactic Season 05: Drilling Deeper finds dwarves on a journey to go where no dwarf has gone before. The new mission type, Deep Scan, sends miners further underground to excavate a special Morkite Geode for its valuable Morkite Seeds. Miners will need to use special scanners to identify resonance crystals, unearth them, and hook them up to the scanner to triangulate the location of the elusive Morkite Geode.

Once found, dwarves will descend to the Geode using the Drillevator. Management has concluded that the return on investment for the upkeep of this Drillevator is minimal, so employees have been tasked with keeping the elevator safe in the event of any…incidents. Once these seeds have been harvested, dwarves will strap on their extra-powerful Jet Boots and blast back up to the Space Rig.

What lies in the depths

Alongside this brand new mission type are several new enemies that stand between miners and their noble pursuit of widening profit margins. Included are a new Glyphid and a new Infector variant, the former of which can conceal itself to a start of near-invisibility to lie in wait for unsuspecting prospectors. The Barrage Infector, Vartok Scalebramble and Corespawn Crawler have all been discovered in the depraved depths of Hoxxes IV, all bringing unique dangers to the work environment.

To make matters worse, Mission Control has become aware of new Warnings and Anomalies, alerting dwarves to prepare for an onslaught of attacks from stony-armoured Ebonite Glyphids and swarms of Macteras, Infectors and Spitters, all ready to fight back. This is all compounded by a new Hazard 5+ level, which has an effect on the aggression, resilience and number of enemies.

Guns, Glory, Gore and… Gyrating?

Mission Control isn’t sending players down empty handed, however. 12 new overclocks, one for each primary weapon, as well as a reworked Conductor Bullets overclock for “Stubby” Voltaic SMG have been added to the game. To further customise the demolition of enemies and the retrieval of precious materials, three new weapon paintjobs can also be found in the Weapon Maintenance reward system.

To accompany these new paintjobs and overclocks in style, Season 05: Drilling Deeper also welcomes a new cosmetic DLC “Order of the Deep”. Dwarves can deck out in attire inspired by the esteemed guild of greybeards who have previously traversed the darkest depths of Hoxxes IV. Finally, new dance moves (including twerking), a cosmetic filtering system and a toggle that allows people to opt out of seasonal content or play previous seasons of Deep Rock Galactic have been incorporated into the game for enhanced employee satisfaction.

Deep Rock Galactic Season 05: Drilling Deeper launches on Steam 13 June 2024, and consoles by 27 June 2024. You can find assets here.

Deep Rock Galactic is available now on Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
