EL SEGUNDO, Calif., 26 June, 2024— Today, Mattel163, the global mobile game developer and publisher, has officially announced their first-ever colorblind friendly decks across UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile. The ‘Beyond Colors’ feature introduces specially designed card decks based on the physical games that display uniform shapes like squares and triangles, enabling players to differentiate between the classic card colors. Players can access the newest update now on all three apps, which are available for download from the App Store and Google Play.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, around 300 million people worldwide experience colorblindness. The ‘Beyond Colors’ update is just one of the ways Mattel163 is striving towards more accessible and inclusive gameplay across its hit mobile titles. To enable this update, players can access personal account settings through their avatar and from there, the ‘Beyond Color’ deck can be enabled via the card theme options.

The ‘Beyond Colors’ deck is the latest feature Mattel163 has developed as part of their wider plans to strive for inclusion and accessibility in mobile gaming. Amy Huang, CEO of Mattel163, adds, “Since the release of our first game UNO! Mobile in 2019, accessibility and inclusion has been at the forefront of our aspirations. We have already enabled over 350 million users to play at the touch of a screen and we strive to lead the charge of inclusion through innovation. By introducing the ‘Beyond Colors’ update to UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile, we want to empower people around the world to connect with each other without barriers and bring the beloved franchises to more mobile players!”

Combined efforts have contributed to this exciting and portfolio-wide update, including Mattel163, its mobile gaming community, and Mattel. When creating the colorblind system for its traditional games, Mattel partnered with several experts in the color vision deficiency field, consulted with individuals who experience colorblindness, and developed custom solutions for games such as patterns, tactile clues, and symbols to ensure color was not the only way to differentiate cards or components. Similarly, the Mattel163 teams collaborated with their global game community, which includes players experiencing colorblindness, to create the “Beyond Colors” mobile decks with symbols that are well recognized and consistent across all its mobile titles. Beyond mobile apps, Mattel has announced that 80 percent of its global games portfolio will be colorblind accessible by the end of the year.

The ‘Beyond Colors’ decks are available now in UNO! Mobile (App Store and Google Play), Phase 10: World Tour (App Store and Google Play), and Skip-Bo Mobile (App Store and Google Play)
