Glasgow woman undertakes Edinburgh Marathon

Jill Smylie, 44 from Clarkston, Glasgow, is going to be undertaking the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 26 May.

She is doing this as part of a series of marathons across Europe: Paris, Valencia and Berlin. As she turns 44 in the year 2024, she thought running four marathons would be an exciting challenge, fitting with all the ‘4s’ this year.

For all four marathons, she is raising funds for the Stroke Association.

Jill says:

“I’ve run since I was a teenager, and absolutely love it. I also enjoy the challenge of completing a marathon. In fact, I successfully ran the Edinburgh Marathon in 2008 and 2023, and I’ve chosen Edinburgh again, because I love the route and the atmosphere.

Jill explains why she is running for the Stroke Association. She says:
“I’ve seen the devastating impact of stroke. Quite a few of my family members have had strokes, including my stepdad, who died from his second stroke. This is why the work of the Stroke Association is important to me.

Claire Pell, Product Officer at the Stroke Association said:
“ We are thrilled with Jill’s massive efforts in not only undertaking the Edinburgh Marathon, but for three others too. It is a huge undertaking, and we are honoured she has chosen us as the charity to raise funds for.

“The Stroke Association aims to prevent stroke and help people who need support following their stroke. We do this by investing in research, providing services and support, and influencing stroke improvements. We couldn’t do this without our supporters like Jill.

“We wish Jill the very best with the upcoming Edinburgh Marathon and future marathons and will be clapping for her as she goes. Well done!”
