“My stroke won’t stop me getting married”

This week on Emmerdale, Marlon Dingle took a huge step in his stroke recovery as he got out of his wheelchair and walked down the aisle to the altar to ask Rhona Ghoskirk, to marry him. It was a rare moment of happiness for the couple.

Marlon is not alone in his determination to take part in a wedding ceremony after his stroke. Many inspirational stroke survivors show the same grit to do this, like Jay from Fife who will be getting married on 20 August.

Jay Johnson had two strokes at the age of 44, four years ago.

The stroke left him with a visual impairment, and mobility problems and it has taken a huge toll on his mental health.

However, since his strokes, Jay has learned to walk again and go back to a normal life.

And now Jay is determined to beat his challenges and have a ‘dream’ wedding to his fiancé Sarah.

He has, however, had to make a few adjustments to make the day go smoothly.

This includes getting to the wedding venue despite it being within walking distance, having chairs at the end of the aisle to help with his tiredness, and support from a friend to do up the buttons of his shirt.

With all the plans in place, Jay can now look forward to the day. Nothing will stop him in his plans to walk down the aisle and have his wedding day just like Marlon.
