Looking for recruits as local music therapy project for stroke survivors kicks off

Grampian Stroke Club – affiliated to the Stroke Association, is launching a new initiative to help people affected by stroke continue their rehabilitation using music therapy to minimise the negative impact of their stroke.

‘Project SING’ will be launched this April for anyone affected by stroke - including carers.

David Jones, Treasurer of Grampian Stroke Club said:

“Music therapy is the science-based use of music to support people with complex mental and physical limitations. Its use is well established in many parts of the world (for example Scandinavia and the Netherlands), but sadly less so in the UK. We are delighted this project is going ahead and are now looking for people to take part. There is no need to be musical to attend; a love of music is enough, whether that be Beyonce or J S Bach, Mantovani or Mozart!”

Gaby Beattie, Engagement Officer at the Stroke Association said:

“A stroke can be devastating. The impact varies depending on which part of the brain is affected. It could be anything from wiping out your speech and physical abilities, to affecting your emotions and personality. Recovery is possible however, and takes a huge amount of support and determination from the individual. That is why we are delighted with Project SING which has the potential to aid stroke recoveries and rebuild lives.

Please come along to give this a try. In addition to the benefits music therapy can bring to aid stroke recoveries, it’s, a great way to meet people and enjoy music together.

The taster session will take place from 5-6.30pm on Monday 4 April at Aberdeenshire Cricket Club in Mannofield.
