Helpful information - Festive Refuse Collection

As we look forward towards the festive period, it’s important to keep in mind that the collection day for your bins may be affected if it falls on a public holiday. If your bins are normally collected on a Monday or Tuesday, they will be collected on the following Wednesday/Thursday –

For households with a brown bin, real Christmas trees can be placed in your bin for kerbside collection. Please ensure they are cut up and that the bin can close properly. Remember the change of date if your scheduled collection falls on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and 2 January.

There is also information on bulk/excess waste, arrangements for flatted properties as well as what residents can do if they want to recycle a real Christmas tree. Find out more about festive refuse collection on the council's website.

Winter Gritting - It’s always a good idea to keep in mind where the nearest grit bin is. Find more on Glasgow City Council's plans for winter gritting and how they will keep the city moving here.

Grit bins - helpful information on locating your nearest grit bin. You can also fill out a form to request a refill of grit through the council website.

Christmas Payment Dates - due to the bank holidays, date changes may affect when certain benefit payments are made over Christmas and New Year. From 25 December 2023 to 8 January 2024 you might get paid early if you get any of:

    • Adult Disability Payment
    • Child Disability Payment
    • Scottish Child Payment
    • Carer Support Payment

Best Start Foods payments are not affected.
