60 local employees complete extensive bike ride in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK

This June 60 employees from the global snack provider cycled a distance of 50 km, 100 km or 200 km, starting and ending in Bournville - the iconic home of Cadbury – to help raise vital funds for the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

With a combined total of 7,500 km accomplished, the local employees from Mondelēz International have raised over £18,000 for Alzheimer's Research UK for completing the challenge. With almost 1 million people in the UK living with dementia, Alzheimer's Research UK is determined to change the ending for everyone affected by finding a cure.

Each year, local Mondelēz International employees hit the road for an annual cycling challenge, raising money and awareness for a variety of causes and charities close to their hearts, including St Basil’s and British Paralympic Association in previous years.

Since 2015, Mondelēz International employees have generated more than £70,000 for a wide-range of local and national charities. Their fundraising efforts are also matched by The Cadbury Foundation’s ‘cashmatch’ scheme.

Steven Say, product change manager at the Bournville site has been working for Mondelēz International provider for over a decade and has completed eight cycling challenges in aid of different charities over the years.

Steven commented: “This year’s charity bike ride was certainly our toughest challenge to date as a large number of the team cycled 200km to mark the 200thanniversary of Cadbury.

“We’re delighted to be supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK this year as dementia affects so many people across the country. We’re proud that our efforts have raised a significant amount of money, which will help accelerate progress towards a cure for dementia.”

Kelly Farrell, community and sustainability manager at Mondelēz International, said: “Our annual charity bike ride is a wonderful way to bring our colleagues together and raise money for an important cause.

“As we celebrate two centuries of Cadbury, we also celebrate 200 years of community investment, kindness and being part of the UK’s shared memories.

“Our dedicated colleagues play a crucial role in many of the programmes we support, and we actively encourage them to volunteer their skills and time in our local communities during their workday. We are incredibly proud of each and every employee for their fundraising efforts and for organising and completing this intense challenge.”

Paul Glazier, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“From all of us at Alzheimer’s Research UK, a huge congratulations to the Mondelēz International team on the completion of these cycling challenges. Together, they have raised over £18,000, which is a fantastic amount! Thank you to everyone who took part.

“We were thrilled to be chosen as Cadbury’s partner for their 200thanniversary celebrations this year. Alzheimer’s Research UK exists for a cure for dementia, and thanks to the support of partners like Cadbury and fundraising efforts like this, we will end the heartbreak it causes.”

About Cadbury

For 200 years, since John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop in Birmingham in 1824, Cadbury has been the nation’s favourite chocolate bar. Recently voted The Grocer’s Britain’s Biggest Brand 2022*, Cadbury has a wide range of well-loved delicious chocolate that reminds the nation that there is a ‘Glass and a Half’ of generosity in everyone. The brand’s success is built upon its deep understanding of customers, shoppers and the category, ensuring it continues to evolve to remain relevant. The health and wellbeing of its customers is hugely important and so Cadbury helps run Be Treatwise, to remind people that treats are special, to be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced lifestyle. Portion control and consumer education, through on pack labelling, have a huge part to play in Cadbury’s strategy to ‘inspire mindful snacking’. The brand recently announced a programme to bring all Cadbury standard chocolate products predominantly purchased for consumption by children, under 100 calories. 100% of the cocoa in Cadbury’s chocolate is sustainably sourced through the company’s Cocoa Life programme, which supports sustainable cocoa farming. This helps secure a positive future for farmers, their families and their communities. For more information visit www.cadbury.co.uk.
