Officer dismissed following misconduct hearing

A serving officer has been dismissed after making sexualised comments to female colleagues.

DC Mohamed Hassen, attached to the North West Command Unit, attended a four-day misconduct hearing which began on Monday, 3 June and concluded on Thursday, 6 June.

The independent panel, led by the legally qualified chair, found that DC Hassen had breached the standards of professional behaviour with regard to:

  • Authority, Respect and Courtesy
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Discreditable Conduct

Between 25 October 2021 and 12 June 2022, DC Hassen made inappropriate, offensive and sexual comments to two female colleagues.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards launched an investigation after complaints were made in November 2022.

Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, who is responsible for policing in northwest London said:

“No one should come to work and be subjected to the kind of language used by this officer. Everyone has the right do be treated with dignity and respect in work and it is clear DC Hassen failed to uphold this basic standard. It is right that he has been held to account for his actions and dismissed from the Met.”

He will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies (PCCs), the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
