Man charged with multiple offences following incident in Wirral Custody Suite, Birkenhead

Detectives investigating two assaults at Wirral Custody Suite have charged a man with multiple offences.

At around 7.20pm on Tuesday 13 August, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault in Liverpool City Centre and taken to Wirral Custody Suite in Birkenhead. Whilst there, he assaulted a desk officer, before eventually being restrained by colleagues. The officer received hospital treatment for serious facial injuries and is being supported by colleagues.

A second officer also received minor shoulder and facial injuries in the attack.

31-year-old Arsalane Melaine of no fixed abode has now been charged with the following offences:
2 x assaults on emergency workers in the above incident
1 x common assault on an emergency worker, a previous incident in which a police officer was assaulted in Liverpool City Centre
1 x Section 39 assault in Liverpool City Centre
Possession of cannabis
Section 4 public order offence

Melaine appeared at court this morning and has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday 12 September.
