New chapter for Larne Visitor Information Point is ‘great success’ at The Book Nook

It has been almost one year since the Visitor Information Point in Larne relocated to the Book Nook with numbers on a steady incline.

The well-known bookshop, which is owned by the Liddle and Cowie families has had a firm place on the Main Street for well over three decades.

It houses a Post Office, Bureau de Change, PayPoint, insurance and passport provision, a newsagents and gift shop.

It was agreed there needed to be a Visitor Information provision in the heart of Larne and it was quickly realised that The Book Nook would be the perfect location.

Speaking about the new venture as a visitor guide, Stephen said it has been a ‘great success’.

“Joanne, myself and all the team at the Book Nook are very passionate about the borough and keen to spread that message to locals and visitors alike.

“When the opportunity arose to use our outlet as the new visitor centre we were very keen to help promote our town and the Mid and East Antrim Borough. We love to chat with people so this was right up our street.

“We have such a variation of people coming in to ask for advice. Sometimes it could be families who want to know where is the best place to entertain their children and the next day you could have visitors from Germany.

“We work closely with council staff and meet regularly to keep us up to date with what is going on in the borough so we can pass on the information to others that Mid and East Antrim has so much to offer.”

Chair of the Borough Growth Committee, Councillor Gregg McKeen, said: “The relocation of the Visitor Information Point to the Book Nook has been an excellent addition.

“Over the last year, Stephen and Joanne have been playing an important role in encouraging visitors to stay longer and spend more in the area.

“The decision to bring the centre into the middle of the town has made it much more accessible and is drawing more visitors into Larne which is exactly what we want.”
