Press release -

Kongsberg Maritime's UK Waterjet Seminar a Resounding Success

Kongsberg Maritime recently hosted a highly successful Waterjet seminar at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, drawing an enthusiastic audience of 40 customers from yards and vessel designers across the UK. The seminar provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage with Kongsberg Maritime’s waterjet experts from Kokkola and Kristinehamn.

The seminar covered a variety of technical topics, offering a comprehensive understanding of the advantages of waterjet propulsion systems compared to traditional propellers, the complexities of waterjet hydrodynamics, and the exceptional global customer services that Kongsberg Maritime offers to ensure the ongoing performance and support of waterjets in service. The event fostered valuable discussions and a collaborative environment among the attendees throughout the day.

Euan Duncan, Regional Sales Director – UK & Ireland, reflected on the seminar's success: “The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our UK customers and showcase the cutting-edge waterjet technology and expertise that Kongsberg Maritime brings to the table. We are thrilled with the positive feedback and look forward to continuing our collaboration and discussions with these key customers.”

A standout moment during the seminar was the appearance of guest speaker Richard Noble OBE, the former land speed record holder who set a remarkable record of 650.88 mph with the jet-powered car Thrust2 in 1983.

Richard Noble’s legendary achievements in the world of speed racing include leading the Thrust SSC project, which in 1997 became the first vehicle to break the sound barrier, reaching an astonishing speed of 763 mph (1,227 km/h). Although his Bloodhound SSC project, which aimed to break the 1,000-mph barrier, faced financial challenges and was halted in 2021, his passion for pushing the limits of engineering continues to inspire engineers, innovators, and schoolchildren worldwide.

Euan Duncan added: “Having Richard Noble attend was a real privilege, and so insightful. Hearing firsthand how he has pushed the boundaries of engineering and technology, and took a jet car to over 650 mph, was inspiring. He’s a passionate owner of a CB90, fitted with a Kongsberg Maritime Kamewa waterjet, and was very complimentary about the engineering support we’ve provided to restore and operate his vessel. While he may not break any records in the CB90, there’s no doubt about his appetite for speed on the water!”

The seminar was a clear success, offering a platform for Kongsberg Maritime to demonstrate its leadership in waterjet propulsion systems, while also fostering stronger relationships with key customers in the UK maritime industry.
