REACTION: IAM RoadSmart's response to the Scottish Government’s fiscal statement

IAM RoadSmart Scotland Road Safety Manager Stewart Mackie said: “IAM RoadSmart is concerned the Scottish Government may cancel all road safety marketing and education campaigns as part of its fiscal update. Such a decision would be shortsighted and comes at a time when there have been high-profile fatal collisions on our network, particularly amongst motorcyclists.

Driver and rider error are key contributory factors in crashes, so there is nothing more essential than campaigns that target behaviour change and help reduce the toll of death and injury on Scotland's roads. In 2023, there were 155 people tragically killed in road collisions, causing not only immense anguish for bereaved relatives but also costing the Scottish economy over £2.6 billion."

This statement follows the release of the Scottish Government's financial report. https://www.gov.scot/news/urge...
