Thameslink’s better bike parking promotes sustainable travel

A new, more secure, locked bike hub is now available for environmentally conscious commuters at Luton station.

Rail passengers using sustainable pedal power to get them to the station can apply for a free fob to gain entrance to the compound, from the ticket office at Luton station upon presentation of ID.

A special event was held last week to celebrate the opening of the facility. Customers were offered a free cycle safety check by 'Dr Bike' of EMC Cycle Repairs & Maintenance and representatives from Luton Borough Council were on hand to promote cycling in the town.

Thameslink’s Customer Services Director, Jenny Saunders, said: “This more secure bike hub at Luton is going to make a real difference to our customers who prefer to pedal to the station to complete the sustainable journey on one of our electric trains.

“I’m really pleased to see it welcomed by members of the community. It’s the latest of its kind that we’ve opened, following the introduction of similar facilities at Harpenden and Elstree & Borehamwood over the past few weeks.”

Ethan Masih, of EMC Cycle Repairs, said: “This new more secure hub gives commuters the confidence to cycle their way to the station. I often spoke to clients that seemed reluctant to cycle, but they now have confidence in the new system.”
