Southern shortlisted for National Rail awards

Southern has been shortlisted for a number of awards at this year’s National Rail awards, recognising a range of stations and individuals.

The awards recognise the best people, organisations, stations and projects in the railway industry. Southern has been shortlisted as finalists in the following categories:

Station of the Year

  • Lewes
  • Eastbourne
  • Brighton

Great Northern’s King’s Lynn station is also shortlisted

Outstanding Team of the Year – Southern’s Area Champions for the Environment. This team of individuals, who volunteer to develop Southern’s sustainability, in addition to their day to day roles, has made a number of outstanding contributions to reducing our impact on the environment. This includes major projects to ensure that zero waste at East Croydon and Gatwick stations go to landfill.

Outstanding Personal Contribution – Kevin Bayley, then Revenue Protection Officer and now Environment Manager. Kevin was recognised for all the work he undertook in addition to his role. This included as a Senior Area Champion for the Environment, playing a vital role in the waste management programme for East Croydon and on the Southern Stakeholder Advisory Board.

Outstanding Personal Contribution – Glynes Highland, Station Sales Clerk, Mitcham Eastfield station. Glynes was named Customer Service Champion by passengers following a competition run across our network. Glynes received the most nominations from anyone (over 10% of the total votes) and comments included: “Nothing is too much trouble for her”, “Always greets us with a smile” and “An asset to Southern”

Winners of the awards will be announced on 17th September.
