GTR reveals children's artwork at Cambridge winter fair

Artwork by children from two primary schools and a nursery was unveiled on Mill Road Bridge for an official opening of the bridge with Govia Thameslink Railway during the community's annual Christmas fair on Saturday (7 December).

The Mayor led the ribbon cutting, flanked by youngsters from St Philips and St Matthews primary schools, and Brunswick Nursery.

Mill Road Bridge was closed for eight weeks over the summer for major changes being made to upgrade the sidings below for better railway services.

As part of its community outreach programme, Project Manager Bethany Martinson and her colleagues at the principal contractors Spencers asked local schoolchildren to help design their site safety posters. This was then followed up by larger artwork which GTR has now put up on the reconstructed bridge.

The artwork shows: a railway-based piece from Brunswick Nursery; Save the Planet animal-themed and anti-bullying (the schools logo) pieces from St Matthews; and a transport drawing of trains, cycling, walking and friendship with them all holding hands – and a lovely rainbow to cap it off from St Philips!

Bethany said: "It was a real pleasure to be joined by so many of the community at the Mill Road Bridge Christmas fair. These fabulous pieces of art will adorn the bridge for years to come and bring joy to everyone who passes by."
