Great Northern donates £1000 to enhance Codicote Community Centre

Train operator Great Northern has donated £1,000 to fund new enhancements for the John Clements Sports and Community Centre in Codicote. Great Northern Passenger Service Director Keith Jipps met Jim Park, Chairman of the John Clements Trust, at the Centre on Friday.

Keith said:

“Supporting the local communities along our rail route is important to me and I certainly enjoy days like today in my job. But I have to bow to the members of those communities like Jim and the John Clements Trust volunteers who are making the centre a great place for people to come for their sport or leisure every day.”

Jim added:

“We are very grateful to Great Northern for their £1,000 donation to the trust. We’re fundraising to deliver new enhancements such as the new blinds and store cooler for the bar we just installed and we hope to deliver more furnishings and sports equipment so we can do even more with the centre for the local community. This donation will definitely help us deliver more of the enhancements we would love to see.”

The centre opened in April and has already played host to numerous clubs and sporting events from indoor cricket and mini rugby to bingo and has proven popular with Codicote’s locals of all ages. The John Clements Trust depends upon donations to fund the proposed enhancements including new furniture and an audio visual system for events as well as sports equipment to provide indoor tennis, basketball, table tennis and 5-a-side football. More information, including details of how to make a donation, can be found at: www.jc-codicote.org.
