Free bike health checks for St Albans commuters

Local St Albans cyclists descended on St Albans City station on Wednesday 1 July as Thameslink partnered up with Cycle Tech and British Transport Police to offer a free bike health check and security marking clinic.

Dr Bike, owned by Cycle Tech, carried out free, full bike health checks to ensure that cyclists’ bikes are safe to ride. Cycle Tech Hertfordshire; also operate a mobile cycle repair workshop at the station every Monday and Wednesday.

British Transport Police officers were on site to offer advice on cycle security and free security marking and registration. By registering their bike, owners help police and retailers identify and verify the legitimate owner of bikes that have been stolen or are being resold.

Stuart Cheshire, Passenger Service Director for Thameslink said:

“Cycling is a key part of many of our passenger’s journeys and we are keen to support initiatives that promote cycling and sustainable travel."

Thameslink

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) began running Thameslink (Bedford to Brighton, Sutton and Wimbledon) and Great Northern (London to Peterborough, Cambridge and King’s Lynn) rail services on 14 September 2014. A small number of services and stations previously operated by Southeastern transferred to GTR in December 2014 and in July 2015 the Southern and Gatwick Express routes will be incorporated into the franchise.
