Derailed train affecting services through Welwyn Garden City

In the early hours of 13 September, a train that was out of service and being moved from the depot at Welwyn Garden City suffered a low speed derailment.

As a result, access to one of the four platforms at Welwyn Garden City is out of action. There are typically delays of around five minutes but if there are issues elsewhere then these can build to around 15 minutes. Some services are also running with fewer carriages than normal in the rush hour. We sincerely apologise for all this.

Network Rail has not been able to re-rail either of the three-carriage train units so far. Attempts earlier this week were unsuccessful because the ground proved to be too soft to provide a stable base for the lifting gear. Together, we are reviewing all options available to get the track back as soon as possible.
