Blooming Ore station!
Ore station has been improved thanks to a local initiative supported by the Sussex Community Rail Partnership, and Southern Railway. There are now six large flower tubs on the platforms which were made by Friary Gardeners, an organization for adults with learning difficulties, who are based on The Ridge in Hastings.
The idea was the brainchild of local resident Trevor Davies, of the Ore Transport Group. He explained: “I have used Ore station for many years and now that I am retired, I want to help the local community to enjoy what we have. We’d like to open up a community garden at the station and grow not just flowers but also vegetables which could be shared out. I am looking for volunteers to help me, and am asking anyone who is interested to please contact me on 07498 314450 or email trevor.d2016@outlook.com”
Kevin Barry the Community Rail Development Officer for the Sussex Community Rail Partnership said: “I want to thank Trevor for heading up this station partnership and with some help Ore can not only have one of the best stations along the Marshlink line but can bring the community together and people of all ages will feel engaged. I also want to thank both Southern and ACoRP ( Association of Community Rail Partnerships) for funding this project and who are keen to be further involved.”
Kevin Boorman, the chair of the Marshlink community rail partnership, added: “It’s great that we are able to support initiatives like this. All credit to Trevor Davies and Kevin Barry for turning a great idea into reality in just a few weeks.”
Simon Greenfield, Station Manager, added: "I'm delighted to see the wonderful work produced by the efforts of Trevor, Kevin, the Friary Gardeners and everyone involved. The tubs really add some extra colour to the station and my thanks to everyone for all the effort they have put into making this happen. We have 65 station partners across the network and it is always great to see people getting more involved in our stations and helping them to further reflect the communities they serve."

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) operates Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern and Gatwick Express services as follows:
Thameslink – services between Bedford and Brighton, Luton/St Albans and Sutton, Wimbledon and Sevenoaks

GTR is now the largest rail franchise in the UK in terms of passenger numbers, trains, revenue and staff: GTR carries about 326 million passenger journeys per year, employs around 6,500 people and generates annual passenger revenues of approximately £1.3bn.
The GTR investment programme for stations includes funding for more CCTV, toilet refurbishments, new retail facilities, help points and car park improvements – as well as plans for increased motorcycle storage and improved transport integration.
