St Georges rolls out EDM solution using the intuitive 'Unity' solution, provided by Fortrus

Following a successful pilot within its Paediatric Service The Trust has commenced rollout of an EDM solution across the rest of its Outpatient Service.

From December 2015 all new patients using the Trust will have their medical notes made available through the Fortrus solution 'Unity', and by June 2016 the trust expect to have completed the scanning of all historical notes allowing patients seen in the outpatient service, to have their appointments without the use of any paper notes at all.

Ian Frost, Programme Manager at St George's commented;

"With 600,000 outpatient appointments a year having an electronic copy of the notes reduces delays and cancellations, whilst also dramatically reducing the administrative burden of running the service. Having an electronic version of the notes means that they are available at any NHS site, at any time, to GPs and other healthcare professionals across the whole of South West London.

Unity is part of our wider Clinical Information Programme, but is an integral part, providing a repository and intuitive user interface for all clinical data irrespective of source. As the Trust continues to develop links into the Community, Primary Care and other care settings, having access to the entire note is critical to the safe and efficient delivery of healthcare.

Unity, with its intuitive design is the ideal solution for this type of application".

Unity has been built and validated by clinicians with their needs at its heart. It has been designed to address the need for rapid access to patient information. It also provides clinicians with vitally important data, securely, and at the point of care, anywhere in the hospital, and within any community setting. The solution does not simply give people access to the patient’s health record; it provides tools that allow clinicians the ability to access the information relevant to them, instantly, and intuitively.
