The Tall Ships Race brought new colleagues

ESVAGT employed six new colleagues directly from the Georg Stage during the Tall Ships Race.

The Tall Ships Race was more than just a festive and lavish event when the many sail ships visited Esbjerg this August.

It was also an excellent opportunity for ESVAGT to recruit seaworthy colleagues from the ships, which is why recruitment officer, Tina Halkjær Nielsen, contacted the training ship, the Georg Stage. The students on board the ship had seen ESVAGT’s presentation video and heard about the areas the shipping company works in, and this lead to 13 applicants for ESVAGT to interview.

”We interviewed the applicants on board the Georg Stage during the Tall Ships Race and we have now employed six new colleagues, the first of whom starts on the 8th of September,” says Tina Halkjær Nielsen.

Good sailors

A couple of new colleagues will start when they turn 18 and the rest of the applications have been kept on database because they were all well-qualified:

“We know that the sailors we get from there are good. They do not suffer from seasickness, they know about life at sea and the routines of sailing. They are used to sharing simple living quarters with lots of people and sleep in hammocks, which hardens people in preparation for life on board a ship,” says Tina Halkjær Nielsen, ”even though life is somewhat different on board ESVAGT, where they have their own cabin with a good bed, internet and training facilities.”

In addition to holding interviews on board the Georg Stage, ESVAGT also invited the approximately 60 young sailors to visit the vessel ‘Esvagt Alpha’; a visit that prompted a large amount of interest from the students.
