Cricket Discipline Commission, Fixed Penalty update

Below is a round-up of Fixed Penalty Directive breaches in April and May.

Three players have received three penalty points, as follows: 

Ryan ten Doeschate was reported by umpires Paul Baldwin and Neil Bainton during Essex’s Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire on 27 – 30 April 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Tim Boon, determined that ten Doeschate had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action);

Darren Stevens was reported by umpires Billy Taylor and Graham Lloyd during Kent’s Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan on 4 – 7 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Steve Davis, determined that Stevens had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (bowling a dangerous or unfair short pitched delivery and/or accidental non-pitching delivery that results in the bowler being disallowed from bowling any further in that innings in accordance with Laws 41.6 and 41.7 and Specsavers County Championship Playing Conditions 41.3 and 41.4);

Peter Trego was reported by umpires Rob Bailey and Paul Baldwin during Somerset’s Royal London One-Day Cup match against Surrey on 18 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Phil Whitticase, determined that Trego had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).

Each of these players had committed a previous breach during the past 24 months. The penalty for each of these subsequent breaches at Level 1 is therefore three penalty points.

Seven players have received reprimands, as follows:

Matt Taylor was reported by umpires Martin Saggers and Russell Warren during Gloucestershire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Sussex on 27 – 30 April 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Lloyd Tennant, determined that Taylor had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (any other misconduct, the nature of which is, in the opinion of the umpires, equivalent to a Level 1 offence);

Ryan Higgins was reported by umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and Jonathan Blades during Gloucestershire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Middlesex on 11 – 14 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Phil Whitticase, determined that Higgins had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (using language that, in the circumstances, is obscene, offensive or insulting).

Steven Finn was reported during the same match. The CLO determined that he had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).

Michael Richardson was reported by umpires Richard Kettleborough and Paul Baldwin during Durham’s Specsavers County Championship match against Derbyshire on 11 – 14 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Stuart Cummings, determined that Richardson had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).

Paul Horton was reported by umpires Peter Hartley and Mike Burns during Leicestershire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan on 11 – 14 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Dean Cosker, determined that Horton had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).

George Bartlett was reported by umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Jeff Evans during Somerset’s Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire on 11 – 14 May 2018. The Cricket Liaison Officer, Tony Pigott, determined that Bartlett had committed a Level 1 breach of the Directives (bowling a dangerous or unfair short pitched delivery and/or accidental non-pitching delivery that results in the bowler being disallowed from bowling any further in that innings in accordance with Laws 41.6 and 41.7 and Specsavers County Championship Playing Conditions 41.3 and 41.4).

Ollie Currill was reported by umpires Martin Saggers and Nick Hall during Gloucestershire’s Second XI Trophy match against Middlesex on 15 May 2018 for a Level 1 breach of the Directives (bowling a dangerous or unfair short pitched delivery and/or accidental non-pitching delivery that results in the bowler being disallowed from bowling any further in that innings in accordance with Laws 41.6 and 41.7 and Specsavers County Championship Playing Conditions 41.3 and 41.4).

The penalty for each of these offences is a reprimand. These penalties will remain on their records for a period of two years and the accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two year period will result in an automatic suspension.
