Monitoring active volcanos with the help of drones

Drones have become a critical tool for professionals working in a large variety of different sectors such as public safety, search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, surveying and mapping, wildlife conservation and many more.

Edgar Zorn is a PhD student in Potsdam, Germany, and specialises in measuring deformation on active volcanoes using photogrammetric techniques (measurements using photographs). He and other scientists recently conducted a study using drones to make aerial images of a volcano in Guatemala from a safe position. This allowed for the creation of highly detailed 3D models of the volcano and enabled the scientists to gain ground movement data that would otherwise be difficult or dangerous to obtain. This sort of data can potentially help to understand and predict volcanic eruptions, which is why drones are increasingly used in volcanological research.

AirWorks 2020 Goes Virtual

We are very excited to announce that AirWorks 2020, DJI's annual gathering of the commercial drone industry, will be a digital event. Prepare to tune in August 25-28, 2020.

AirWorks has become a leading event where industry experts and seasoned pilots gather to advance the future of commercial drone technology. While we regret not being able to meet face to face, we are extremely excited about the opportunities that gathering online presents.

There's a lot of planning and work behind transforming a massive drone convention into a digital event, and we're still working out some details, but here is what you need to know about a virtual AirWorks.

See the World in Silence

Maximum accessibility to our digital assets is a high priority at DJI. In order to get closer to this goal, we decided to add captions to our tutorials so people with hearing disabilities can experience the joys of creating without barriers.

This is the story about Zhao Liang, a creator that wants to be heard by the world. Zhao is deaf but that doesn’t prevent him from flying his drone and expressing himself through it. “I have my own words, my own gestures, my own perspective. My images are my voice. Nobody else can say what I want to say except me,” says Zhao.

Tennis Against Corona, a Hasselblad Story

Björn Ceder, Swedish photographer and creative director, was selected to document Tennis Against Corona, an aid initiative to support those strongly affected by the pandemic organised by Stockholm Open, the world’s oldest Association of Tennis Professional’s indoor tournament. On 10 May 2020, two of Sweden’s highest ranked tennis professionals and the world’s second-best ranked brothers in the sport, the Ymer brothers Mikael and Elias, competed head to head in the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm. Playing to empty stands, only a small camera crew was allowed to cover the fundraiser as the first match within professional male tennis to take place since the ATP called for a stop to all tournaments in March.
