WATCH: French 'synth-core' quartet The Scaners pull a full-scale "cosmic trigger" with "Mars Attacks"

Written by Nathan Whittle

The Scaners, those French gonzo-punks beloved here at Louder Than War, have just dropped a new video for the song Mars Attacks, taken from the latest album.

We’ve followed The Scaners since they released their debut album two years ago. We heard from the off that they produced a great mix of garage, punk, and new-wave, tied together with a concept worthy of only the finest trash B-movie sci-fi. They followed it up only a year later with their even better second album. The album hit a good few end-of-year lists for writers here at Louder Than War, and now, to keep the momentum rolling they have put together a video for the song Mars Attacks.

This is Punk, 2077, dragged from a burnt-out spaceship in the scorching heat of the Benidorm desert to a neon-lit Chinese disco on the dark side of the moon. The Scaners are French gonzo-synth punks and an intergalactic scuzzball house band. Miscreants from a future generation. Clad in white from head to toe, bug-eye shades peer out through a dirty water fog. They play blistering sets of songs that will propel that will them through the atmosphere on a fix of adrenalin.

Ack! Ack! Ack!

THE SCANERS: French synth-punks release new video single "No Place In Space" ahead of LP release | Dirty Water Records

France’s “alien-gonzo-synth-punk rockers," The Scaners, are ready to take off with their eponymous debut LP with the first single “No Place In Space” which takes the listener through a darker, slower wave that Louder Than War Magazine describes as “a swirlingly mesmeric menace of guttural growls backing a looming snarl over a dark driving rhythm.”
