THE SONICS: London To Premiere "BOOM" At Raindance Film Festival

The world premiere of BOOM: A film about The Sonics at the Raindnace Film Festival SOLD OUT FAST!!! There are still tickets available for the second screening on October 1st. Get em while you can!!

BOOM tells the story of the most important band you’ve never heard of: The Sonics. After exploding into the music scene in the 1960s, they threatened to fade away, but their impact is still felt through the industry.

A captivating and inspiring documentary, BOOM tells the authentic story of the grandfathers of punk. 50 years since The Sonics exploded into the rock music scene, their shockwaves are still being felt. They are the most important band you’ve never heard of, with legends from The White Stripes to Bruce Springsteen to Nirvana citing them as a major inspiration. In this documentary, Jordan Albertson tracks the band from their rising Northwest small-town success in the 1960s, blasting out pieces like The Witch and Louie, Louie, to the groups eventual slow dissolve, and their later underground reemergence in the UK.

Interviews with the five original members provide an authentic and detailed account of their history, while also allowing the film to function as an inspirational story of delayed recognition, as they realise their music did not fade away.

Filled with great anecdotes and wonderful personality, BOOM is a fascinating exploration into how legends are made and history is shaped, even if avoiding mainstream awareness. Featuring interviews with Heart, Pearl Jam, The Sex Pistols, Mudhoney, and many more, it becomes clear how The Sonics were the grandfathers of punk, the originators of garage and grunge, pioneering that heavy, ecstatic, shredding, wild energy that instils rock music with life.

After reforming in 2007 following a four-decade hiatus, the Sonics began playing shows and festivals, and then cut a better-than-expected comeback LP in 2015, the Jim Diamond-produced This Is the Sonics. This year they've toured Europe for five weeks and the reception was so positive they plan to return to that continent in October to play dates in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Germany, where they'll do a session for the renowned TV music program WDR Rockpalast. In September they're recording a new EP with Diamond and  the documentary Boom: A Film About the Sonics premieres in London on September 30.

The Sonic’s current lineup features original member Rob Lind (saxophone, harmonica, and vocals) and veteran Sonics drummer Dusty Watson; they're joined by two recent additions, guitarist Evan Foster (of Tacoma’s Boss Martians) and keyboardist Jake Cavaliere (of LA garage-psych band the Lords of Altamont), as well as bassist Don Wilhelm.
