LISTEN: Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin – "Pop Song EP" via Goodbye Boozy Records

This noisy monstrosity by Mikal Cronin and Ty Segall is being repressed for only a third time by the great Goodbye Boozy Records out in Italy. Their Pop Song 7″ definitely deserves to see the light of day again after its initial release back in 2009.

The good news here is obvious: this record was repressed. The bad news: it looks like it’s going to be sold out again. But don’t feel bad—they only released an extra 300 pressings. And this stuff is totally wild. This is probably some of the crudest-sounding material that Segall and Cronin ever laid down together.

“Kit Carson” is a lethally noisy racket that doesn’t seem to have much of a goal other than being just that, while “Pop Song” is a truly inviting track that starts the single on a positive note. The surfy grooves are aplenty in between the bruising, tom-tom rhythms, making for a ridiculously high-energy song that could only possibly come from the likes of Cronin and Segall themselves.
