ACTION WEEKEND: Premier Rock 'N' Roll Weekender (Santander, Spain) Announces 15th Edition, Shaping Up To Be Best One Yet!

With a blast of pure garage from the mountainous region's stripped-back garage duo Greasy and Grizzly, and a soaring set from post-punk indie-pop Terrier, Santander's premier rock 'n' roll festival announced details of next years 15th edition to a packed audience last Saturday night. The festival will take place on the 5th and 6th of April 2019. Early bird weekend tickets are already available for 20€.

As mentioned in Louder Than War's feature on the rising of the Spanish underground scene, Action Weekend is one of the growing festivals in the country that each year kicks up and brings some fantastic bands, and next year it looks like they're pulling out more stops. Topping the bill is one of France's current hot young garage bands The Scaners (Dirty Water Records). Their blend of hyper-space garage-punk has seen them this year become the toasts of festivals across Europe and this, their first show in the north of Spain, promises to be a blast. Also on the bill with The Scaners for the Friday are their label-mates, rhythm and blues royalty King Salami & The Cumberland 3, with the opening band still to be announced.

The Saturday will see a double bill, with a lunchtime show featuring a yet to be announced band, but who are promised to kick start the day's proceedings with a crazed show of pure gutter-trash rock 'n' roll.

The night show will see Madrid's Terrier return once again to open the gig in support of their new album, Algo Para Romper. Following them, British freakbeat-psych-mod trio The Embrooks make their return to Spain in support of their Who We Are album, and topping the bill on the Saturday night, Barcelona's Mujeres. Their infectious blend of garage pop has seen them go from strength to strength over their four albums, and their set will no doubt wind up the festival in style. In addition to the great bands on offer, Action Weekend will also host DJs from across Europe, and a record fair.

Over their previous 14 editions, Action Weekend has striven to combine the best of punk, garage, R&B, pop, and psych, mixing them up and serving the results in the perfect package. Next year's edition looks like it will be their best to date.

The Dirty Water Club started in October 1996 in the Tufnell Park neighbourhood of north London, at a venue called The Boston. The club's name is derived from The Standells' 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts.

Past performers have included The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, Country Teasers, Black Lips, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers, The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, Radio Birdman, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few. The club has also seen some original '60s performers, such as The Monks, ? and the Mysterians, Kim Fowley, Sky Saxon, GONN, Michael Davis of the MC5 and more grace its stage.

Their in-house record label, Dirty Water Records, is one of the leading garage/beat/(real) R&B labels in the world.
