Press release -
Emulsion polymers market driven by growing demand in Asia-Pacific
The emulsion polymers (EPs) market has been forecast to reach a total of 6,581.4 kilotons by 2018, increasing at a high compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years.
The EPs market has grown significantly during the past few years and is expected to grow at a modest pace in the next five years, mainly driven by growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to a recent market report, 'Emulsion Polymers Market: Global Trends and Forecasts to 2018,' revenues for the emulsion polymers market in Asia-Pacific reached a total of $17,320.5 million in 2012. China, Japan, and South Korea represent the major markets for EPs in Asia-Pacific.
Though emulsion polymers are highly versatile and used throughout the industrial economy, the market will remain closely linked to a relatively narrow group of products, most prominently water-based paint, paper and paperboard coatings, and general purpose adhesives.
Vinyl emulsions are currently the fastest growing type of EP. The global market for vinyl emulsions is growing with a CAGR of 8.1%.
Acrylic vinyl emulsions as frequently used for paints & coating applications as this emulsion imparts a gloss and water resistive properties to the coated surfaces. It is also used for tile coating applications.
Acrylic emulsions with a global consumption share of 40.0% are among the most consumed EP. Acrylic latexes or emulsions are synthesized from acrylic monomers. Acrylic monomers comprise the monomeric alkyl esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, and their derivatives.
The most rapid gains through 2016 will be for emulsion polymers in paint and coatings, where water-based formulations are steadily increasing their share of the market..
Even in industrialized regions such as North America and Western Europe, where water-based paint dominates the architectural sector, ample opportunities for emulsion polymers remain in the industrial and specialty coatings markets.
Key players currently dominating the emulsion polymers market include Akzo Nobel N.V. (The Netherlands), Arkema S.A. (France), DIC Corporation (Japan), The Dow Chemical Company (U.S.), and Wacker Chemie A.G. (Germany).
