Castle Leisure Centre earns inclusive fitness award

Castle Leisure Centre earns inclusive fitness award

Bury Leisure are proud to announce that Castle Leisure Centre has been awarded IFI accreditation and officially acknowledged as a welcoming, inclusive fitness facility.

IFI, the Inclusive Fitness Initiative, recognises commitment to provide services and facilities for disabled people and those with long term health conditions or additional needs.

Alongside praise for its wide-ranging activities programme and BEATS (exercise referral) service, the centre was also praised for its ‘easy to use and adaptable gym equipment’ and ‘good pool access arrangements’.

Councillor Karen Leach, Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said:“Castle Leisure Centre is the first sports facility in Bury to have received this accreditation and one of only 6 in the North West and 46 nationally.

“Not only does this accreditation support Bury Council’s priority of ‘healthy lives for all’ it also clearly demonstrates the commitment of the workforce to providing excellent services for everyone.I am very proud of what Bury Leisure have achieved.”

Bury Leisure’s other two centres, Radcliffe Leisure Centre and Ramsbottom Pool and Fitness Centre, also offer adaptable gym equipment and both centres are now working towards achieving IFI Accreditation during 2019.

IFI is a programme run by the English Federation of Disability Sport designed to help leisure providers offer disabled people more choice and opportunities to enjoy the benefits of physical activity.

The IFI has been established for many years, supporting leisure centres to become more welcoming and accessible environments to disabled people.

The IFI mark takes into consideration points such as fitness equipment, accessibility, widening participation opportunities, staff training and marketing and engagement.For more information visit http://www.activityalliance.org.uk/
