Course gives mums a boost for bedtime reading

Eight local mums have been inspired by a course to help them get creative in their bedtime reading to their little ones.

The free nine-week course, run at Daisyfield Children's Centre, was titled "Make your own Story Sack" and involved choosing a popular children's book and bringing it to life by making items relating to the story.

One parent who attended the course said: "I have learned various ways of bringing fictional books to life and how to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills to everyday reading." Another told how she had "enjoyed developing creative skills and learning new activities to do with my children".

Parents who attended the course gained accreditation adding to both their life skills and employment capabilities. More courses are planned: anyone interested should contact Daisyfield Children's Centre on 0161 253 6656 or emailĀ Daisyfieldcc@bury.go.uk.
