Addax Bioenergy becomes UN’s first Clean Development Mechanism project in Sierra Leone

Addax Bioenergy has become the first in Sierra Leone to be registered as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is also the first sugarcane-based power generation project for ethanol production to be registered as a CDM project in Africa.

“This achievement underlines the pioneering nature of our project and our ambition to set a benchmark for sustainable bioenergy investment in Africa”, commented Simon Cleasby, CEO of Addax Bioenergy. “Electricity is essential for development and we are proud to provide a significant renewable supply in Sierra Leone. I thank all those who have contributed to this achievement, which demonstrates the potential of Sierra Leone and confirms that private investment can lead to responsible and sustainable development”. Mr. Cleasby concluded.
