​The Nicest Wooden Toy Packaging Designs

In the age of plastics and metals, it is really nice to still see wooden toys on supermarkets shelves.

There are numerous benefits of wooden toys which add to their appeal, for example they are more eco friendly when compared to modern toys made from man-made materials. Not only this, but as they are built to last, they benefit from longevity and are often passed down from generation to generation, meaning that they offer hours and hours of fun and a lifetime of cherished memories.

With Christmas just around the corner, how are toy makers making their toys stand out on the shelves? One technique is packaging – and they’re making the exterior just as exciting as the contents. Here are some of our favorite wooden toy packaging designs.

Wood-Carved Art Toy - by furniture designer Thibaut Malet (Montpellier, France)

Thibaut Maletusually makes simple-shaped objects, using one or two materials at a time to highlight the object in its natural aspect. Limited edition hand carved “Art Toy” was undoubtedly inspired by iconic Lego figures and comes elaborately packaged in a hand-stamped cardboard box.

Adorable Birds - by designer Lars Beller Fjetland (Norway)

“The ‘Re-turned’ concepts elevates the leftover wood from being merely an ignored piece of trash to becoming a desired piece of feel-good woodcraft”, as the artist describes the concept himself. Every element of the packaging is made of recycled materials and together with the birds they create a new story based on a “past experience”. It is truly a housewarming gift for the loved ones. 

El Ramón - limited edition toy by Art Director Javier López Pereyra (Argentina)

El Ramónpackaging is handcrafted with Argentinean wood, flexible iron and recycled gray paper with silk-screen print. A simple and charming toy, whose logo and packaging enhance the beauty of the product itself.

Sling-Slang - by Matthew Tait (Detroit, Michigan)

Sling-Slangis a handcrafted solid-maple easy-to-built YOYO kit. The kit comes in a sustainable screen-printed cardboard case. Both front and back panels are made of five layers of recycled paper with a fold in the center.

Woody the Sheep Knitting Game – by Le Jouets Libres (France)

Woody is made of sustainable materials: a solid piece of French wood and 100% organic wool. It is packaged in a recyclable cardboard box, and along with a nice print that illustrates the shape of the hidden part of the sheep it makes the packaging look complete and attractive.

Indonesian Traditional Games - by designer Felia Devi (Indonesia)

A beautifully made packaging accompanied by vintage style illustrations and modern typography. The result is charming and engaging.
