KFC Launches a Line of Edible Nail Polish and It’s Just Finger Lickin' Good!

Fast-food chain KFC has unexpectedly entered the beauty industry with the launch of two flavored nail polishes that are meant to taste as good as its fried chicken.

The limited-edition nail polishes made for KFC Hong Kong come in two flavors, Original Recipe and Hot & Spicy, which are shades of pale nude and fiery orange, respectively.

“The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavor, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish,” Ogilvy & Mather creative director John Koay told Ad Week. This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong, he added.

In order to make nail polish that tastes like the company's famous fried chicken, the marketing company teamed up with the food technologists at the spice company McCormick, which provides KFC with 11 herbs and spices for it's 'secret mix'. The edible shades are said to be sourced from natural ingredients that are inspired by KFC's two fried chicken recipes.

According to the company's statement, the 'nail polish was created as a tribute to the world famous "It's Finger Lickin' Good" slogan'."Consumers simply apply and dry like regular nail polish, and then lick—again and again and again," the company said of its edible beauty product.

Not only is this product turning heads for its unique quality, its packaging makes it all the more desirable. Designed to look like a luxurious cosmetics brand, the sparkly taupe, and orange polishes are placed in glass containers embellished with the words "It's Finger Lickin Good" in playful type. The overall design is sleek and modern and could easily be found in major beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta if KFC Hong Kong chose to expand the line.

KFC fans in Hong Kong were asked to vote for their favorite flavor to see which one makes it into production. The company also created a music video to coincide with the launch. The clip sees a young woman, who is modeling the Original Recipe polish, beatboxing and playing the keyboard. Her male companion in the video shows off his Hot & Spicy manicure by expressively moving his hands and arms to the music.

Not only have they launched edible ‘chicken-flavored’ nail vanish, KFC has now expanded its interests in the beauty world by launching a sunscreen. A pretty crazy idea, but if you are one of those people who love the smell of fried chicken, this is for you.

The face of the 'extra crispy' campaign, George Hamilton, is tanned a deep shade of mahogany. Only available in America and initially limited to one per household, the brand is expecting it to become an item that KFC fans will be hungry to get their hands on. And since this chicken-scented product was sold out in less than 3 hours, KFC’s expectations are probably not that far from reality!

Packaged with the KFC colors of red and white and decorated with the iconic Colonel Sanders, this novelty item is literally exploding on the internet.

"Suntan lotion always smells like lotion," KFC's chief marketing officer, Kevin Hochman, told Business Insider. "So we thought - why not make it smell like fried chicken? These scents bring up these memories, often of childhood visits to KFC. We think that idea is why the sunscreen will catch on."

So our question now is… What will they come out with next?!
