Press release -

Scanian of the Year Peder Fredricson has his portrait on display at Malmö Airport

The 2021 Scanian of the Year, chosen by readers of the newspaper Kvällsposten, is the equestrian Peder Fredricson. He was on hand today at Malmö Airport together with airport director Karin Öhrström to unveil his portrait in the Welcome to my Hometown gallery. Peder is now one of 14 faces on display in the gallery that greet all visitors to Scania and Malmö Airport.

The honour of Scanian of the Year has been bestowed since 1967. For many years, the regional newspaper Kvällsposten and the Scanian Flag Day Association have nominated a number of candidates for the paper’s readers to vote on. The Scanian of the Year also gets his or her portrait included in the Welcome to my Hometown gallery at Malmö Airport.

This year, equestrian Peder Fredricson was named Scanian of the Year. He is the most decorated Swedish equestrian in history and has won countless gold, silver and bronze medals at the Olympics, World Championships and European Championships. In 2021, Peder was ranked number one in the world in jumping, and as recently as last week won the International Federation for Equestrian Sports’ Best Athlete award.

Peder will join other successful sports stars in the portrait gallery at Malmö Airport such as footballers Therese Sjögran and Zlatan Ibrahimovi.

“The person selected as Scanian of the Year is someone who has given Scania good publicity, has strong popular support and reaches a broad public. I am therefore very pleased that Peder Fredricson will be one of all the Scanians who welcome our passengers to Scania and Malmö Airport. He is a very deserving winner of the Scanian of the Year honour,” says Karin Öhrström, airport director at Malmö Airport, Swedavia.

“It is fantastic to be Scanian of the Year. I have seen the previous winners and I am in good company – really an honour,” says Peder Fredricson.
