The number of long-haul routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport continues to increase as Air India launches a non-stop service between Stockholm and Delhi. There is strong demand for direct air links to India, both leisure travel and from the business community, who will now have even more opportunities to continue travelling in Asia from the carrier’s Delhi hub.
In an effort to visualize the growing number of destinations that can be reached directly from the airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport today unveils Open Sky, an installation where data from the world’s air traffic is projected onto a two-meter diameter globe. The data comes from Flightradar24 and is projected using three-dimensional projection mapping technique.
SAS will launch another long-haul service from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to the US. Beginning in October, SAS will fly once a week to Miami operating an Airbus 330-300 featuring the new SAS cabin. Together with New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, Miami will be SAS’s fourth US destination that passengers can fly to non-stop from Stockholm Arlanda.
The number of destinations continue to grow at Stockholm Arlanda Airport as SAS is launching a new route to Eilat for the Winter of 2017. Travellers will be able to fly to Eilat once a week on Saturdays between October 28 and March 24, 2018.
In October, Air Arabia Maroc will start operating a direct service between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Agadir. Now Swedish passengers will have an additional low cost alternative to choose from among Stockholm Arlanda’s range of destinations. The direct service will be operated on Tuesdays and Fridays and be in demand among holidaymakers as well as passengers visiting friends and family.
easyJet continues its investment at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Today the airline’s UK commercial manager, Neil Slaven, was on hand to inaugurate the two new destinations London Luton and Milan Malpensa. Together with the existing destinations Geneva and Lyon, easyJet has now established four new direct routes to Stockholm.
In August LOT Polish Airlines starts a direct route to the Polish capital Warsaw from Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. LOT is currently the largest airline in Central- and Eastern Europe and through the hub Chopin Airport in Warsaw, the Swedish travelers will have access to an additional 70 routes in LOT’s network.
In August the Estonian airline Nordica is launching a direct route between Gothenburg Landvetter Airport and Tallinn. The route is operated six times weekly and offers a convenient service for both leisure travellers and the business communities of western Sweden and Estonia.
The Lebanese airline Wings of Lebanon in partnership with tour operator Nakhal continues to expand in the Swedish market. By summer 2017 Nakhal returns to Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Malmö Airport for a direct service to Beirut. New for this year's summer program is an additional direct route between the Lebanese capital and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport.
The passenger numbers at Swedavia’s airports are continuing to increase. During February of 2017, the number of passengers that flew to and from Swedavia’s ten airports increased by 3 per cent compared to the previous year. In total, 2,857,200 passengers flew to and from Swedavia’s airports and six out of the ten airports showed an increase in passengers compared to the same month in 2016.
SAS starts a new direct route to Madeira from Stockholm Arlanda Airport in for the period of winter/spring of 2017/2018. The Portuguese island is very popular among Swedes and has a pleasant climate throughout the year with a fantastic nature.
