The 1st June, airBaltic starts a direct service between Gothenburg Landvetter Airport and the Latvian capital of Riga. The route was started out as a seasonal in the summer of 2015. airBaltic is now back introducing a full year service operated six departures weekly. airBaltic serves over 60 destinations from its home base in Riga.
Passengers flying from Stockholm Arlanda Airport now have even more opportunities to fly direct to popular Croatia. Croatian Airlines is the second airline this week to introduce a direct route to the Croatian capital Zagreb from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. During the summer season Croatia Airlines will operate the route three times per week starting in May.
Norwegian's expansion at Stockholm Arlanda Airport continues with new routes and more departures to popular destinations during the summer. Starting in early June, passengers will be able to fly direct to the three new summer destinations Lisbon, Dublin and Zagreb. In addition, capacity is increased to a number of popular destinations including Croatia, Cyprus, Spain, Greece and Italy.
Swedavia set a new passenger volume record in 2016, up 5.2 per cent. New passenger records were set at seven of the Group’s airports. Growth was mostly in international travel. Net revenue increased to SEK 5,546 M (5,416) and profit for the year was SEK 717 M (1,410).
More and more Swedes are choosing to fly. During the first month of 2017, passenger volume was up a full 10 per cent at Swedavia’s airports. Both domestic and international traffic increased sharply compared to January 2016. At Stockholm Arlanda Airport, international traffic increased a full 13 per cent in January.
In October 2017 Ryanair starts operating two new direct routes from Kraków to Sweden. Consequently Ryanair is back at Malmö Airport, greater Copenhagen's second largest airport, and the Irish low cost airline is also adding a route to Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. Passengers will be able to choose from three weekly departures from both Malmö and Gothenburg to the second largest Polish city.
Air France opens a new seasonal direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Marseille, the third largest city in France.
In December, Stockholm Arlanda Airport set a new passenger record of 24.7 million passengers. The goal is to be Scandinavia’s leading airport, and Stockholm Arlanda is now further reducing its airport charges. “We are now reducing charges to airlines for the third straight year and will thus be even more competitive," says Elizabeth Axtelius, director of Aviation Business at Swedavia.
bmi regional starts operating a new direct route from Gothenburg Landvetter Airport to Birmingham. The great demand for connectivity to Great Britain's second largest city means a frequency of six departures a week beginning on the 8th May 2017.
Swedavia’s ten airports had 39,512,000 passengers in 2016, which is a new record. That is a substantial increase of 5 per cent or almost 2 million passengers compared to 2015.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport set a new passenger record in 2016. With its record increase, Stockholm Arlanda is very close to passing the 25 million passenger mark. The new record is 24,702,000 passengers, a 7 per cent increase since 2015.
Swedavia is the first company in the world to purchase aviation biofuel cor-responding to the amount used for trips its employees took on official busi-ness in 2016. Today an aircraft was fuelled for the first time at Stockholm Arlanda with this biofuel.
