Sigma Technology Group Contributes to European Standardization of Digital Product Passports

Sigma Technology Group, a leading IT solutions and tech consultancy company, is actively involved in shaping the future of product information transparency with its participation in the newly established committee for the standardization of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) in Sweden.

This committee, formed under the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), is a crucial response to the European Commission's standardization request for DPPs.

"The committee aims to gather a wide range of expertise across various sectors to represent Sweden effectively in the European standardization of DPPs," says Amelie Olsen, Unit Manager at Sigma Technology Informatics Solutions. "This will not only enhance Swedish influence but also ensure the development of robust and implementable standards for a more sustainable future."

The standardization process presents a unique challenge—developing standards for a regulation that is still under formalization. Some of the areas mapped out by the committee in the standards development include the importance of linking information to products, connecting new standards to existing open standards, ensuring a decentralized system for data storage, protecting sensitive information, and many more. Addressing these challenges will be instrumental in creating a reliable and secure DPP ecosystem.

Karolina Lehman, Project Manager of DPP Services at Sigma Technology Informatics Solutions, says: “The EU has recently adopted the new Ecodesign Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which also includes digital passports. Together with the Commission and other stakeholders, we are confident we can deliver effective solutions for DPP in Sweden.

The European group's next meeting will occur at the Swedish Institute of Standards at the end of October.

Sigma Technology offers expert guidance and support to companies navigating the transition toward regulatory compliance and seamless adoption. Through strategic partnerships with academia, industry hubs, and technology providers, we provide tailored solutions to ensure companies are well-prepared for the new era in manufacturing. Sigma Technology is also one of the committee members on Digital Product Passport regulations at the Swedish Institute for Standards.
