Nearshore Cooperation Provides Continuous Value – Róbert Varga, Ericsson Hungary

The nearshore setup allows for higher flexibility and builds trust between partners. Sigma Technology Hungary has been cooperating with Ericsson Hungary for many years, and today provides both onsite and nearshore delivery. We have had the opportunity to speak with Róbert Varga, Head of Product Development at Ericsson Hungary, who works with the Sigma Technology Hungary nearshore team. “We were looking for a partner who would feel ownership for the product, and the Sigma Technology team has proven to be one,” says Róbert.

Since the plan was to have around 30% of the project work performed by a supplier, Róbert’s team was looking for a dedicated partner.

“This is not a ‘command and control’ project; it is more than that. We wanted a supplier who would feel involved and become an integral part of the team. During the open bid RFP process, we understood that Sigma Technology could be the company that would be able to step up and be a partner,” says Róbert.

Among other deciding factors, Ericsson found the supplier’s capability for a quick start and fast ramp-up crucial. The track record of the Sigma Technology team’s expert competence and engaged management was also an advantage.

“Sigma Technology team is very committed and lives up to promises. They drive suggestions on a level that affects the whole organization. They are active listeners, aware of what is going on in the organization, and quite adaptive.”

 Continuous value with nearshore cooperation

“I believe that the nearshore setup is the future of our cooperation. To succeed with nearshore, you need to feel ownership for the work you do. We must cooperate closely, of course, but any nearshore cooperation should be self-contained.”

The nearshore setup, offered by Sigma Technology in Shanghai, Karlskrona, and Gothenburg for other customers, is a relatively new delivery model for Sigma Technology Hungary.

“I think that both of us need to approach this cooperation with an open mind. We had a rough start with this project, but having difficulties is natural. What matters to me is how fast and efficiently the difficulties are addressed and fixed. Fast reaction, full transparency, and involvement are paramount.”

Cross-functional and CPI nearshore teams

Sigma Technology Hungary has substantial experience in technical writing, content development, software development, and testing. Sigma Technology’s nearshore delivery model includes cross-functional teams with a dedicated product owner, a software architect, and a Scrum master, making the development team sustainable and ensuring high quality. The nearshore CPI team includes a dedicated Scrum master and a project lead driving the expert team of technical writers.

“We believe that Sigma Technology Hungary provides a new level of consultancy, and now is the time for us to show it. This project is a great opportunity for us to prove that we can deliver a software service in a much more comprehensive way than ever before,” says Balázs Supola, Unit Manager at Sigma Technology Hungary.

“We find the nearshore setup highly beneficial for both sides. We are near the customer and do regular follow-ups to ensure that we are on track with the project. We are also benefiting from building a strong team, which strengthens our delivery and gives us better opportunities for knowledge sharing and growth,” adds György Nagy, Country Manager at Sigma Technology Hungary.
