Kinestral Technologies Joins Taiwan’s Manufacturing Community, Launches First Large Scale Smart-Tinting Glass Factory

SINGAPORE/TAIWAN – 4 October 2018 – Kinestral Technologies, Inc. today officially opened its first large-scale smart-tinting glass factory. Located in Miaoli, Taiwan, the factory will produce Halio™ smart-tinting glass, a green technology designed to support smart building goals of energy efficiency, sustainability, and occupant health and wellness.

The factory uses Kinestral’s patented technologies to manufacture its next generation electrochromic glass in sizes up to 3 x 1.5 meters. Using its well-established manufacturing processes, Kinestral will quickly achieve production yields that closely match those common in the flat panel display industry.

Spanning over 10,000 square meters, the factory was built by renovating a manufacturing plant owned by G-Tech Optoelectronics Corporation (GTOC), one of Kinestral’s strategic partners; the new facility complements an existing factory in California. The smart-tinting glass produced in Taiwan ships to manufacturing centers in the USA, Europe, and Asia-Pacific for assembly into high-value Halio products. Production is expected to ramp to 400,000 square meters of glass per year by the end of 2019.

Halio, which looks like natural, clear glass until it tints to shades of gray, is becoming the preferred smart glass solution for architects who are challenged to meet daylighting, health and wellness, and sustainability goals while still retaining views and the look of natural glass. Halio can reduce energy consumption up to 20% by reducing heat from sunlight and reducing the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours. By eliminating the need for blinds and shades, occupants are also exposed to more daylight and maintain their connection to the outdoors, both of which are proven contributors to occupant health and wellness.
